Relish in the colours, flavours and sounds of this South American country on our 10 day highlights tour. Taste the coffee (it’s the best in the world), soak in the sun on the coast, admire the colonial cities, dance to local beats and enjoy the stunning landscapes. You might be cancelling your flight home!
Day 1 | Welcome to the capital of Colombia! Your driver will be waiting to greet you at the airport and take you to your hotel in Bogotá . Normally a city backpackers skip, Bogotá is Colombia’s sprawling, high altitude capital. The cobblestoned center of Bogotá features colonial-era landmarks like the neoclassical performance hall Teatro
Colón and the 17th-century Iglesia de San Francisco. It's also home to popular
museums including the Museo Botero, showcasing Fernando Botero's art, and the Museo
del Oro, displaying pre-Columbian gold pieces.
Day 2 | Bogota is a vibrant city, full of colors, contrast and history. This morning, we’ll
enjoy a historical walking tour with a local guide with the opportunity to
learn about local food and traditions. Start in the historical centre and make
our way up to a viewpoint at Monserrate, all while learning the official and
unofficial history of the country. Then, explore a traditional handicraft
market and try some typical snacks and coca tea.
Day 3 | Fly to the Coffee region! Once you settle in at your hotel, we’ll take a tour
around a coffee farm and learn about different varieties of coffee. Each farm
in Colombia produces coffee a little bit differently so this will be an
insightful look into Colombian coffee and the people behind it.
Day 4 | Today we will experience the traditional architecture of Salento and the beauty of
the wax palms in the Cocora Valley, a species only found in this region of
Colombia. Our local guide will begin with a ride in a traditional Jeep Willy to
the national park and then begin the guided trek where you’ll learn about the
local history, ecosystems, flora and fauna of the region. In the afternoon,
explore the streets of Salento, immerse yourself in the artisan community and
enjoy the lookout views.
Day 5 | Quick flight over to the City of Eternal Spring. Discover the famous nightlife of
Medellin. Experience the different rhythms of the city from salsa to techno, to
the popular reggaeton. Depending on the day you chose, enjoy different activities such as dance classes, drinking games, entrance to clubs, rooftop Jacuzzis, and free drinks. Be
accompanied by a local guide who will make sure the whole experience is full of
high energy in non-touristy places.
Day 6 | See Medellín from a local’s perspective. Today we’re taking a walking tour to see
both the good and improving sides of the city. See the city’s highlights and
learn about the ongoing social advances and innovative nature of the city and its people.
Day 7 | Day trip to the unique town of Guatape! Guatape is the only town in Colombia that has
had the misfortune of having its citizens permanently relocated. In 1978, the
town of Guatape was flooded in order to have a hydroelectric dam built. Its
citizens were all moved and the remains of the old town are underwater. That’s
not all, there is a 7,000-foot monolith that sits in Guatape territory. The
rock itself has been there for millions of years and today, there are 742
stairs you can climb in order to reach the summit.
In the afternoon, we’ll take a quick flight over to coastal Cartagena.
Day 8 | Wake up in colourful Cartagena! You’ll have some free time in the morning to explore
the shops and colourful streets of the old part of the city. In the afternoon,
bring your appetite and adventurous attitude. This food tour will get you
up-close-and-personal with the real Cartagena and the colourful characters of
the streets. You’ll sample tropical fruits, local pastries, sweets,
refreshments and the golden parcels of deep fried goodness. Along the way,
you’ll hear stories about the music, history, architecture, art, culture and
politics that shape the daily lives of the locals.
Day 9 | Can’t visit the Caribbean without a day at the beach! Hop on a boat and head to the
Rosario Islands. Spend the day relaxing in a picture-perfect beach chair with
turquoise waters at your feet at an exclusive beach club. Lounge by the pool in
a hammock, sample some cocktails at the bar, enjoy a rejuvenating beachside
